Abstract
This paper is an attempt to bring to light Batangueño philosophy in general and to lay emphasis on the importance of Apolinario Mabini’s ideals in the development of Filipino philosophy. This research takes into account the writings and the life-experience of Mabini so as to understand the philosophy that he developed relative to his view of the human person, his understanding on the concept of history and the fate of the Filipino people and his assessment of the social and political conditions of his time. From these, Mabini developed his metaphysics of hope—a hope that transcends his own life experiences and goes beyond his death. Mabini’s philosophy can be the basis of modern-day Filipinos as it provides people with an idea that there is still hope in the midst of an apparent hopelessness.
