| The faith of the Bauangeños on the Holy Cross certainly developed in them a sense of cultural identity. The Bauangeños themselves believed that what makes them what they are today is because of their historical experiences, particularly their faith experience with their patron, the Holy Cross or the Mahal na Poong Sta. Krus. However, their faith on the cross is being questioned because although it is supported by the Catholic Church, such development of faith may be leading to dissention from the non-believers and from other Christian religions as it was according to them, leaning to heretical or unorthodox teachings. This is because the cross was only made from a very ordinary wood and it seems that it does not even have a connection with the cross of Christ in Calvary.
This research paper is an attempt to provide a philosophical study on the faith of the Bauangeños on the Holy Cross as well as an explanation as regards why Bauangeños possessed such deep faith on an ordinary wood. By providing data on the historical development of the cross, the researcher attempts to make the reader of this paper, and more importantly, the Batangueños, understand the faith development of the people of Bauan. Moreover, this paper also provides a clarification to certain discrepancies on the supposedly historical documents. With this attempt, it is the hope of the researcher that proper faith to the Divine Creator will all the more be ensued and developed. |
