Abstract
The primary objectives of this study was to undertake an assessment of the status of exploitation in the capture fisheries using suitable fisheries parameters and provide technical recommendations based on updated information to enhance the status of the fisheries. The study made use of participatory tools, focused group discussions, individual interviews, and secondary data in the form of catch statistics from the archives of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics in Batangas City. To get a deeper understanding of the status of the stocks, quarterly length and weight samples of six major species were obtained from the landings and compared to their respective length-at-first maturity values. The study found out that there is growth overfishing in which too many small fish are being harvested before they reached their reproductive sizes. It is recommended that immediate management measures be taken to reduce the ecological damage through reduction in fishing capacities and intensities
