Abstract
It is the responsibility of the educational institution to produce competent graduates, ensuring that they will become employable individuals equipped with sufficient skills, adequate knowledge, and the proper attitude. This study determined if the trainees were able to achieve the competencies required by the Food and Beverage Department and Housekeeping Department of hospitality industry; assessed if the students learned the necessary competencies needed in the industry in their Food and Beverage Service and Housekeeping classes; correlated the OJT performances of the students evaluated by the industry with their performance in the classroom; and proposed an action plan to improve the level of competencies of the students based on the industry standards. Data interpretation of this descriptive type of research was through the use of Pearson’s R in achieving the weighted mean and statistical significance of the correlation to obtain the correlation coefficient. The result revealed that the performance of the students in the Food and Beverage Course does not have a relationship or effect on the performance evaluation of the trainee because a manager’s or immediate supervisor’s basis for the evaluation of the trainee is the actual performance of the student trainee on the duration of the training. This served as a basis in conceptualizing a proposed action plan which can be a guide for academic institutions offering the same program in order to match the needs of the students during their on-the-job training.
