Abstract
The Philippines has 76 600 MW potential of wind and untouched 170 000 MW sea wave energy. Part of the government’s plan in its energy agenda is the missionary off-grid electrification which is solely based on renewable energy. Approximately 2.4M households in the Philippines do not receive proper electrification services, an example of which is the island of Tingloy, Batangas, the Philippines which experiences scheduled power supply. Thus, this study aimed to test the viability of the existing designed hybrid system to efficiently convert sea waves and wind energy to electricity on the island of Tingloy. Applied research was utilized which involves the consideration of the available knowledge to solve a particular problem. Several tests were conducted to evaluate the system's performance. Based on the results, an average output power of 15.78W and average efficiency of 11.6% was achieved. Moreover, based on the average charging rate of the system of 0.17V/h, the system being charged for at least 6 hours can be used to power five 5-W LED bulbs from 12:00 am to 4:00 am the identified crucial hours in the island according to the residents.
