Abstract
This study identified the dietary consumption in the last 6 months of the college students in selected public and private universities in Batangas, Philippines during the last six months during the academic year 2018-2019. Using a self-structured "Food Frequency Questionnaire", seven hundred one (701) college students were participants in this research. Responses of the college students were analyzed using frequency count, percentage, weighted mean, chi-square, and Two-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). It was found out that most of the respondents have normal body mass index (BMI) and waist to hip ratio (WHR) but some are underweight, overweight, and obese. Results showed that the dietary consumption of students complied with the required energy and nutritional intake for adult Filipinos. However, the amount of food consumed is almost the same for all respondents regardless of their BMI and WHR hence there was no significant relationship between dietary consumption to anthropometric measurements. In terms of the associated factors such as the use of condiments, methods of cooking, consumption of fast food, and skipping of breakfast, they all have a significant relationship to BMI except for engagement in exercise/workout which is significant to WHR. Based on the results, the study recommended to the schools a segment of the nutrition education program entitled “Cultivating a Culture of Health” to be participated in by the clinic, guidance office, canteen, classroom teachers, and parents.
