This study focused on the framework of a proposed
capability maturity model for a student which was
inspired by the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) used in
software engineering. Similar to CMM, the Student
Capability Maturity Model (Student-CMM) can be used
as a basis for the design of an HEI’s Student e-Portfolio to
gauge the students according to their capability and
skills acquired through learning high quality education on
a five level scale. Specifically, this study aimed to: 1)
analyze existing capability and learning maturity
frameworks, which can be used as a basis for the
framework of the student capability maturity model; 2)
design a framework for the Student Capability Maturity
Model (S-CMM) which will help manage students skills
according to what is expected of them shaped by the
needs of the industry and the skills and abilities they have
to gain in order to prepare them for employment or their
field of expertise; and 3) apply the student capability
maturity model framework in the design of the Brahman
E-Portfolio. By combining the characteristics of maturity
levels from Capability Maturity Model for Software
Development and the elements of 21st Century Learning
Framework, the Student-CMM was developed. . In this
study, two models such as Capability Maturity and
Learning Maturity were described and then used as the
basis for the framework of the Student Capability Maturity
Model. This framework assesses the capability of the
student according to the Learning Maturity Model and
gauges the level of maturity that the student attained for
each level. The design of the framework was established
using data gathering technique through research on
related studies and theories that was anchor on the
concept of integrating the Capability Maturity and the
Learning Maturity Models. The Student Capability Maturity Model can now be used as a framework in the
design of an application in determining the maturity level
of the student to determine its readiness in the workforce
environment. Once applied to an E-portfolio, students
are now guided as to what skills necessary for work they
already possess and what skills they are still lacking
prompting the drive to learn. The academe will now be
able to assure the industry that the graduates they
produce will contribute to the betterment of the
workforce. The industry, on the other hand, will need less
training for newly-hired fresh graduates as competent
students are more than ready to join the work force. |
