Abstract
This study aimed to design and develop a system which will minimize classroom power consumption by eliminating the occurrence of students staying inside the classroom even without classes and of electrical facilities left powered on after classes. A research on the existing power management system was done to conceptualize the project. Possible improvement on the technologies and electronic devices that can be integrated to form the system was then explored. After accomplishing the design, the project was then developed and installed at JH303 room of University of Batangas. A power sub meter was installed in the room to monitor the power consumption with and without the system. Power meter readings were done before the start of the first scheduled class and at the end of the last scheduled class of the school day. After a 15-day simulation and observation, the average daily consumption was computed to quantify the power saving. Results showed that a 16.11% of power saving was accomplished by the system. It was also observed that an average of 25 kWh difference between the readings at the end of the last scheduled class and the start of the first scheduled class on the following day was eliminated using the system.
