Abstract
The study aimed to develop a system that provides solution for immediate checking and displaying of product price to the consumer. The designed system will display the price of the products and automatically calculate the total price for all scanned items. Prices are displayed on the LCD screen of the Tablet computer. The user has to scan the Quick Response (QR) code located on the shopping item using the camera of the tablet computer. The QR code information will be stored into a tablet’s memory, and checked against a database from which the code would retrieve the appropriate information. Several tests were conducted to determine how the proposed system would operate and function based on different scenarios. Two different operations of the system were tested to determine the accuracy of the system, the scanning time of the QR code reader and the processing time of the Android application. Based on the results, the average accuracy of the system is 91.5%. The designed system automatically displays the product information like product name, manufacturing date, date of expiration, category and each price that are very useful to the shoppers. Furthermore, the system also computes the total price of the selected items by the shopper.
