Abstract
This study entitled, “SMS-BASED RESIDENTIAL ENERGY MONITORING AND BILLING SYSTEM” presents the design and development of a system that can help reduce, or eliminate human errors in energy meter billing and in constructing something for the monitoring of consumers’ energy consumption through the use of Short Message Service (SMS). The specific target consumers in this study were residential energy consumers. The proponents used the waterfall model as the study’s methodology which was divided into five different phases. This system designed was composed of two parts: the energy meter module and the GSM module connected to the server. The energy meter module was connected to the consumer’s premises while the other one was connected to the energy utility companies. The GSM module was the bridge of communication between the energy meter module and the server and between the consumer and the server. The server was a computer installed with a program that manages the whole system, together with the database for the consumers’ records.
