Abstract
Memes have gained popularity in this age of digital culture. Generally found in social media platforms, these small cultural units of transmission carry all sorts of underlying messages that instantly pique the attention of the populace. Some of the popular memes circulating in various social media platforms are suicide ideation memes. This study measured the exposure of the respondents to internet memes and their content (ordinary and suicide ideation), the presence of suicidal tendencies among the respondents, and the correlation between exposure to suicide ideation memes and suicidal tendencies of the 250 randomly selected students of the University of Batangas (UB) belonging to the age-group of post-millennials. The researchers utilized the descriptive-correlational design and interpreted the data through quantitative analysis. In order to test the relationships of variables, the statistical treatment used was Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient. The results of this study indicated that a significant correlation exists between exposure to suicide ideation memes and suicidal tendencies; thus, the null hypothesis of the study was rejected.
