Abstract
The first year of higher education is considered particularly crucial since students often enter higher education academically unprepared and with unrealistic perceptions and expectations regarding their studies. This study aimed to analyze the interrelation of senior high school academic performance and basic accounting performance of first year BS Accountancy students of University of Batangas. The data gathered from 190 students were analyzed and interpreted using percentage method, weighted average, and regression analysis. The study revealed that English, Mathematics, and critical thinking related subjects taken during senior high school have a significant relationship to the overall basic accounting performance of the students. On the other hand, Accounting related subjects taken in senior high school, particularly Fundamentals of Accounting, Business and Management 1 and 2, are only significant to the theoretical performance in Basic Accounting of the students. Also, the study revealed that professors in ABM1 and ABM2, academic distinction and general averages have significant relationship to the basic Accounting performance of the students. Given these results, the researchers recommended guidelines and activities to improve the academic and accounting performance of students.
