Abstract |
The study is entitled ―Taal Heritage Hunt: An Augmented
Reality Game‖. The study aims to educate not only students but also
tourists and locals from the selected area about its cultural heritage
and tourism by using Mobile Augmented Reality. Its focus is on
development of an application that combines game-based learning
activities, powered by technology including mobile, with social media
tools and, most importantly, face-to-face participation, which
promotes peer collaboration: people can learn while on the move and
having fun!
Mobile augmented reality is AR that you can take with you
wherever you go. Most specifically, this means that the hardware
required to implement an AR application is something that you take
with you wherever you go. Meaning, learning is cheap. You only have
to bring your mobile device installed with the application to go back,
travel through time and learn the beauty that the locality offers. The
application which will be developed can be integrated to subjects like
history and social studies. This app includes game for students/tourist
in the form of treasure hunting wherein they have to be in the place
where the history happened. The AR treasure hunt activity simulates
what historical or significant event happened on that place. Examples
of the activities to be undertaken by students during the treasure hunt
include: Visiting ordinary homes to learn how people lived and what
they ate, etc., strolling down famous streets in the selected locality
and see information such as its history and old structure by placing
your mobile phone on specified markers on walls. During the treasure
hunt, students interact with learning materials on-site and in real-time
via their mobile devices, and are required to solve tests, collect
evidence and decipher puzzles. They also complete a travel log, or
blog, in which they share their experiences and what they have learned.
This study used developmental research. Developmental
research is the systematic study of designing, developing and
evaluating instructional programs, the process of translating the
design specifications into physical form and products that must meet
the criteria of internal consistency and effectiveness. The researchers
used rapid prototyping for the design of this project. Rapid prototyping
is the process of quickly mocking up the future state of a system, be it
a website or application, and validating it with a broader team of
users, stakeholders, developers and designers. The researchers
used Unity3D, Vuforia, and Photoshop to develop the application.
Different conclusions were drawn after this study. The
concept of augmented reality and mobile application can be used to
create an augmented reality game. The researchers were able to
create a design for The Hunt AR Game using Unity, Vuforia,
MonoDevelop, Photoshop, and PhotoScape. THe Hunt AR Game
was implemented in the field of history by using multimedia that will
present historical and cultural information while playing the game.
The researchers recommend the optimization of 3D assets
so the game may run smoothly. Future researchers should add more
attractive interfaces like visual effects. Frequent updates should be
done for the stability of the game. THe Hunt should be deployed in
different platforms such as windows and iOS. |
