Abstract
This study intended to know the perceptions of the Senior High School students of the University of Batangas regarding LGBT potentiality in the UB-SHS classroom officership setting in terms of exposure in the classroom and being part of the class officership, as well as its impact to class participation and leadership skills. Likewise, the study moved to determine whether there are significant relationships between the perceptions and its impact to students of University of Batangas Senior High School. From three-hundred and two (302) Senior High School students enrolled in the university, the data needed for establishing the study were sufficiently met through a survey questionnaire with weighted mean, composite mean, and Multiple Regression as statistical treatments for the analyses and interpretations. The findings of this descriptive-correlational study revealed that perceptions in terms of exposure in the classroom had a 3.79 composite mean and ‘Strongly Agree’ verbal interpretation; perceptions in terms of being part of the class officership had a 3.77 composite mean and ‘Strongly Agree’ verbal interpretation; impacts in terms of class participation had a 3.72 composite mean and a ‘Highly Visible’ verbal interpretation and; impacts in terms of leadership skills had a 3.75 composite mean and ‘Highly Visible’ verbal interpretation. In line with these, there are significant relationships between the perceptions and its impact to students, and the variables are positively correlated. Lastly, the researchers suggested an action plan to enhance inclusivity on leadership while improving satisfactory level and performance among students. The researchers concluded that the university’s Senior High School students employ inclusive, non-discriminatory, and accepting relationships with LGBT student leaders.
