Abstract
This research entitled “Analysis on the Influence of Twitter on the Digital Civic Engagement of Selected Senior High School Students of University of Batangas” was accomplished to tackle in-depth the concept of digital civic engagement in the context of the Twitter platform. The purpose of the study was to discover if using Twitter influences the civic engagement and participation of selected University of Batangas senior high school students. This study employed the use of the descriptive-correlational design to identify the degree of correlation between the two variables. The study sought to answer the profile of the respondents in terms of their academic strand, and number of hours of using Twitter. It also aimed to answer the level of interaction and engagement of students with Tweets regarding politics, economy, environment education, and the extent those Tweets made the students participate in measures that address societal issues related to those four areas. Moreover, it tried to discover if there was a relationship between the level of interaction and engagement of students with tweets and the extent to which these tweets made the students participate in measures addressing societal issues in politics, economy, environment, and education. The researchers utilized the use of online survey- questionnaires to collect the data needed for the study. The researchers concluded that there was a moderate level of interaction and involvement with tweets regarding the areas of politics, economy, environment, and education. In the end, the researchers came up with a proposed action plan that will maximize the use of Twitter in fostering and improving the digital civic engagement and participation among the students. The researchers recommend that follow-up study be conducted tackling the same research gap only in the context of other social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, or Instagram.
