Abstract
This study focused on the framework of a proposed capability maturity model for students which was inspired by the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) used in Software Engineering. Similar to CMM, the Student Capability Maturity Model (S-CMM) can be used as a basis for the design of an HEI’s Student e-Portfolio to gauge the students’ capability and skills acquired through learning high quality education on a five level scale. Specifically, this study aimed to: 1) analyze existing capability and learning maturity frameworks, which can be used as a basis for the framework of the student capability maturity model; 2) design a framework for the S-CMM which will help manage students skills according to what is expected of them shaped by the needs of the industry and the skills and abilities they have to gain in order to prepare them for employment or their field of expertise; and 3) apply the student capability maturity model framework in the design of the Brahman E-Portfolio. By combining the characteristics of maturity levels from CMM for Software Development and the elements of 21st Century Learning Framework, the S-CMM was developed. In this study, two models such as CMM and Learning Maturity were described and then used as bases for the framework of the S-CMM. The design of the framework was established through research on related studies and theories that were anchored on the concept of integrating the Capability Maturity and the Learning Maturity Models.
