Abstract
Nutrional knowledge and practices are crucial for clients undergoing hemodialysis treatment hence making them nutritionally vulnerable. Adequate nutrition, diet compliance, and appropriate food choices makes hemodialysis client maintain optimum health. This quantitative research evaluated the level of knowledge on dietary guidelines among clients on hemodialysis treatment and their practices to dietary restrictions. Based on the findings of the study, the majority of the respondents were middle adults, male, at collegiate level, Roman Catholic, using AV Fistula for hemodialysis treatment, and had been undergoing dialysis for more than twelve months with previous medical history of stroke. Their nutritional profile showed that most of the respondents were underweight with BMI of less than 18.5 kg/m2 utilizing lacto-vegan diet and regular diet and dinner as the most averaged adhered time meal. Results also revealed little knowledge on dietary guidelines and often practices dietary restrictions among clients on hemodialysis. The test revealed no significant difference between nutrition knowledge and practices among clients on hemodialysis treatment when grouped according to profile.
