Abstract
Ang mga Badjao ay indigent na grupong may mayamang kultura at tradisyon subalit mas nakikilala ngayon bilang namamalimos sa kalsada ng Batangas. Ngunit mayroon pa rin sa kanilang nais makatapos ng pag-aaral kahit pa may dinaranas na pagsubok sa paaralan. Layunin ng pananaliksik na itong malaman ang epekto ng pagiging mahiyain at mababang tingin sa sarili sa akademikong katayuan ng mga Badjao. Tatlong Badjao na mag-aaral at tatlong guro nila ang nagging mga kalahok sa pag-aaral na ito. Bilang pagsunod sa etikal na pagsasaalang-alang sa grupong kinabibilangan ng mga kalahok, siniguro ng mga mananaliksik ang pangangalaga sa kanilang katauhan at ipinaliwanag ang kanilang tungkulin at karapatan. Gamit ang naratibong pag-aanalisa ng mga kwalitatibong datos na nakalap, nalaman ng mga mananaliksik na pagpapakita ng negatibong paguugali ang manipestasyon ng nararamdamang hiya at mababang tingin sa sarili ng mga Badjao. Ang dahilan ng nararamdamang hiya at mababang tingin sa sarili ay nakadepende kung paano sila tanggapin ng ibang tao sa paaralan at sa labas ng kanila komunidad. Mayroon negatibong epekto sa akademikong katayuan ang hiya at mababang tingin sa sarili ng mga Badjao. Buhat sa resulta ng pag-aaral na ito, gumawa ang mga mananaliksik ng ‘Facebook site,’ seminar, at organisadong kwentuhan.
