Abstract
This research paper assessed the level of awareness of the college students of the University of Batangas, Batangas City campus. The respondents were 500 college students from the University of Batangas. A 31-item self-constructed questionnaire based on reviewed literature was used as a survey instrument. The data gathered was statistically analyzed and interpreted. Results show the level of awareness to Cybercrime Prevention Act in different approaches, such as being aware on prohibited acts, penalties, enforcement, and implementation; their source of awareness regarding the Cybercrime Prevention Act; and to the possible recommendations to raise awareness on Cybercrime Prevention Act. The students are generally aware of some of the crimes defined under the said law, but not of the specific punishable acts or legal terms. They are also very aware that every crime has its own punishment but not totally aware of the specific penalties for specific crime. Further, they are also very aware on how the Cybercrime Prevention Act is being enforced and implemented by the NBI and PNP. When it comes to sources of their awareness, they are well-encouraged to visit, with the use of their gadgets, the websites and other social media platforms that contain information about the Cybercrime Prevention Act. It is highly recommended that the topic of cybercrime must be included in the curriculum of all programs and courses offered at the University and in different educational institutions. The researchers gave some inputs that can be utilized by the college students of the University of Batangas to sustain and improve their awareness about the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
