Abstract
The main purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between levels of organizational commitment and employee retention in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the province of Batangas in order to propose a Human Resource Retention Plan. There were 180 employees from Eight (8) HEIs in the province of Batangas selected through simple random sampling who concurred to become participants of the study. The questionnaire is research-made, validated by several experts in the field of research and human resources before it was administered through electronic data surveying. Data were statistically treated and analyzed using the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) with the techniques used such as measure of central tendency to determine the participants’ perception of their organizational commitment (OC) and retention based on several factors, and Pearson correlation coefficient to determine the relationship between OC and retention. The results indicated that there was a negative correlation between organizational culture and calculative commitment and a positive correlation between organizational culture and normative commitment. This implies that private HEI’s in Batangas promote a healthy organizational culture which decreases the effects on employees’ calculative commitment while increasing employees’ normative commitment. Human Resource Managers of HEIs need to continuously strengthen plans and programs relative to organizational culture, thereby preventing employee turnover and increasing the chances of promoting employee retention.
