Abstract
The study entitled “Cognitive Tones: Improving the Study Habits of the University of Batangas Senior High School Students Through Music” aimed to determine the effectiveness of music in improving the University of Batangas Batangas City Campus Senior High School students’ study habits. The primary objectives were to assess the sample population’s strand, sex, music genre, and music preference, the effectiveness of listening to music in terms of studying for different subjects, in productivity, and in reducing stress, if there is a significant relationship between music and its effect on the improvement of students in studying different subjects, in productivity, and in reducing stress, and to identify the challenges encountered by the respondents during the process of the study. With that, the researchers made use of the quantitative descriptive research design. Moreover, survey questionnaires were utilized as the research instrument, which were administered and distributed online via Google Forms to gather and collect necessary information and data from three hundred three (303) UB SHS students who were selected through a simple random sampling method. Additionally, statistical treatments such as simple percentage, weighted mean, likert scale, Pearson’s r, Pearson’s moment of correlation, and Slovin’s formula. The results show that most respondents prefer listening to the Pop genre of music. Moreover, based on the results, there is a strong positive correlation between the effectiveness of listening to music in terms of studying for different subjects, in productivity, and in reducing stress. In the conclusion of the study, the findings showed that there is indeed a significant relationship between music and its effect on the improvement of students in studying different subjects, in productivity, and in reducing stress. As a result, the researchers will create a Discord Server and conduct a listening party as the output of the study.
