Abstract
This study aimed to develop a deeper understanding of the “Level of Trust in Digital News Platforms of CAS Students at the University of Batangas.” The study used the descriptive type with two research instruments, a Likert-scale survey, and a focus group discussion. One hundred respondents answered the questionnaire while 12 participants participated in the focus group discussion that mainly focused on the factors of their trust in digital news platforms. It was found that most students from CAS use Facebook as their main digital news platform access and they prioritize the process of fact-checking for the credibility of certain news or information. Credibility is the main factor for them to trust digital news platforms for them to display certainty about news sources and content that they share through their social media accounts. The respondent’s course and age showed a significant role in their extent of trusting digital news platforms. In addition, to eliminate the risk of false information and practice responsible use of the internet, a Media Blog is proposed as a communication campaign to help not only CAS students but also the public assess their trustworthiness of digital news platforms.
