Abstract
The local media has had a big role in shaping people’s perspective in a lot of things, more specifically in political perspectives. This research entitled “How Local Media Shifts the Political Perspective of the Political Science Students at the University of Batangas” focuses on the effect of the political science student’s exposure to local media to their political perspective. Past studies have tackled the effect of social media and media to people’s political perspective. However, this study mainly focuses on local media. The researchers used a descriptive research design in doing the study and a survey questionnaire to acquire data from the respondents. The respondents consisted of 40 political science students from the University of Batangas. Statistical methods such as t-test, composite mean, percentage, and frequency were used in order to test the null hypothesis. Findings from this study shows that the political science students already have knowledge regarding politics even prior to their exposure to local media. Furthermore, it was also found that exposure to local media has sharpened the political science students’ knowledge about politics and was even able to form their opinions. Furthermore, the students also have a higher chance of engaging in politics after their exposure to local media. They are also more likely to examine political candidates for their candidate preference after exposure to local media. Lastly, the researchers proposed for a booklet to be the action plan that will help people to gain knowledge about media literacy.
