Abstract
To facilitate adolescent students to make more healthy food choices and develop healthy eating habits, it is paramount to determine their eating habits, behavior, and the factors that could affect them. This descriptive research proposed an intervention program to promote healthy eating habits and behavior among high school students. One hundred forty-three (143) Grade 7 to 10 junior high school students were selected through cluster sampling and were asked to answer a twenty-eight-item self-made questionnaire. It was found that more students wanted to lose weight, which means that more students are not satisfied with their current weight. Additionally, the students take the breakfast and dinner meals at home while snack, lunch, and pm snacks were considerably taken outside or at the school premises. Students also often observe and have the proper eating habit and positively perceive healthy eating habits, which may be a good indication of the student's awareness and knowledge of the importance of healthy eating habits. On the other hand, fat intake was found to be one of the areas of eating habits that are least observed and practiced by the students. Furthermore, it was revealed that the students love and enjoy food and are easily affected when they see smell and someone who is eating. The student's behavior was also affected by eating more or less when they are experiencing negative emotions. The taste of the food was found to be the most important and always considered as a factor in buying and price and sustainability was found to be the least while the high cost of foods was considered as the highest barrier to eating healthy foods. Therefore, Junior high school students have yet to receive intervention programs to reinforce their awareness and implementation in terms of healthy eating habits and behavior. This study would also help the University of Batangas to effect policy regarding the availability of healthy products at the school canteen when face-to-face classes resume.
