The study aimed to know the effect of the shoulder bag and backpack use to the posture of their users. The researchers came up with this study knowing that bags are essential needs of students in going to school and that different types are used depending on the preference of the students. The descriptive method of research was used in conducting the study which focused on the female college students of seven (7) departments in the University of Batangas (UB) which included CAMS, CAS, CBA, COED, COE, CTHM, and CICT. The researchers involved students who were using only one particular type of bag - either the shoulder or the backpack. Questionnaire and postural assessment of the students in anterior, posterior and lateral view were the instruments used in gathering and collecting sufficient and accurate data. The postural assessment was done by considering the body parts of the students mostly the head, scapula, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. The researchers used percentage and frequency distribution as the statistical treatment to compute for the result of the survey conducted. Based on the result of the study, the shoulder bag users elicit more postural deviation than those who use backpack. Also, students who are using shoulder bag tend to have more significant asymmetry on shoulder while students who use backpack have more affectation with regards to pelvic symmetry. |
