Abstract
The study tackled the perceived roles and assessed the needs of the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in Batangas City with regards to delivering health care provisions. This study utilized the descriptive evaluative research design. The researchers employed nonprobability sampling, specifically accidental and quota sampling strategies, with 40 percent of the total population taken as respondents of the study. To answer the specific problems, the researchers utilized a checklist type of questionnaire as research instrument. The researchers also used frequency, percentage, rank, and weighted mean to analyze and interpret the data. The findings revealed that the respondents performed their perceived roles well most especially in assisting Public Health midwives in all existing programs of the Department of Health. Meanwhile, based on the assessment of BHWs, their needs related to clinical skills, handling infectious diseases and environmental hazards, and case finding and investigation were mostly necessary while their communication and health advocacy assessed needs were assessed as necessary. BHWs strongly agreed that the measures identified in the study were needed to enhance the needs as BHWs. The researchers’ prepared action is recommended to further enhance the skills of BHWs.
