Abstract
Film tourism aims for the film producers to imaginatively tell a story as much as to creatively introduce destinations to audiences. The concept of transforming profitable tourism business onscreen is one of the many platforms of promotion that forms part of an effective strategy connecting tourism and the media industry. The impact of film tourism is evident in destinations worldwide but the study on the concept is relatively new in research. This study was conducted in order identify the characteristics of film tourism in terms of plot, setting, characters, theme, and camera shots; determine the criteria used by filmmakers in choosing a location for film tourism; and determine the strategies employed by film makers to produce awareness as the first step in transforming location into tourist destination. Moreover, the study aimed to establish patterns and standards based on the determined approach and strategies of successful films that will guide people with interest and those in the field of film making. The result of the study may contribute to the strengthening of the link between tourism and mass communications towards a more effective strategy on creating awareness of the target destination’s existence. The researchers used the descriptive-qualitative method of research.
