Abstract
This study explores the concept of Big Data Analytics as applied to educational institution using the case of University of Batangas. Specifically, the study aims to a) define the current state of data collection and data banking in UB; b) identify the issues raised by users concerning the current state of automation; c) introduce means on how big data analytics may be used for decision support to address the identified issues; and d) develop a Technology Roadmap from 2014-2019 applying Big Data Analytics for decision support in UB. The study is a descriptive research using survey, focus group discussion, interview and documentary analysis as methods of data collection. Based the results, it was found out that UB’s current state of data collection and archiving is limited to storage of structured data gathered through the customized applications. Positive issues on automation were raised by end-users referring to their active participation in development process. Likewise, the large dataset of different formats collected through customized software may be subjected to analytics in support to decision making. Finally, the research recommends Technology Roadmap for UB for AY 2015-2019 preparing the school for application of Decision Support Systems utilizing techniques in Big Data Analytics.
