Abstract
This study aimed to explore the English language needs of engineering students of University of Batangas. Specifically, the researcher intended to find out how well the current English courses respond to the language needs for students to become efficient learners of professional Engineering courses. The methods used in gathering data are survey, interview and observation. Data were collected from engineering students and engineer-teachers. The results indicated that the English language is extremely important in engineering education in terms of class discussions and OJT; that of the four English skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking), oral and written skills are the most common skills which Engineering students have to improve to some extent. To help enrich the English proficiency of engineering students, the following are suggested: Having a Selective English Proficiency Class, Enrichment of English Courses Content; Coordination with College of Engineering and Requiring an English for Specific Purpose (ESP) course.
