The main purpose of the study is to characterize in general perspective the culture of sabong and to mirror out the philosophical values and social norms among Batangueños that are deeply rooted in this social activity of cockfighting. Specifically, it aims to do an attempt in explaining that sabong is not just a form of vice or even gambling but rather a way of social interaction and cultural exposition; to determine the moral implication of sabong in the culture of Batangueños; to uphold Batangueño culture through the study of the people’s social activities; and to serve as a good source of readings for the students taking social science subjects for the purpose of enhancing student’s knowledge. This research used the phenomenological approach for the purpose of deeply immersing into the phenomena and used twenty (20) respondents whom shared personal experiences, insights, beliefs and technical know-how of sabong. Interview with the respondents has been done using guide questions. A Sabong Model with six (6) themes has been developed showing the real aspect of cockfighting and the people involve on it. Norms, social values, and beliefs of the Batanguenos have drawn out of this study which can help to understand the society and the people in general. |
